THE ODYSSEY ITALIA RALLY
10 – 24 September 2017
A luxury rally from Liguria to Tuscany, via Corsica and Sardinia
Inspired by ancient myths and modern legends, the luxurious Odyssey Italia Rally ran over 14 days from 10-24 September, starting on the Italian Riviera and visiting the Mediterranean islands of Corsica and Sardinia before finishing in glorious Tuscany; you’ll find more route details in our Recce Report, which you may read via the link on this page.
This was the first Rally Round event to be designed by Kim Bannister, internationally-renowned for his previous work on the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge, Flying Scotsman, Classic Safari, Trans-America Challenge and many more, and Odyssey Italia was a rally he had long dreamed of organizing. Fabulous roads through sun-drenched mountains and sparkling coastal landscapes, iconic locations and historic treasures, superb four- and five-star hotels, exquisite cuisine and good company combined to made this a most luxurious and exclusive event, with a relaxed schedule that allowed for leisurely refreshment and sightseeing breaks (not to mention sunbathing and swimming) at beautiful locations such as Porto Cervo on Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda.
Our wonderful adventure is now at an end, as crews today drove the final day’s route from Siena to Il Ciocco, near Barga, crossing the finish line and checking in to the spectacular Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco Resort and Spa for a prizegiving dinner. The last regularity section of the event, shortened due to heavy local traffic, produced no significant changes to the rally leaderboard, although for the first time in two weeks the competing crews had to contend with rainy conditions as thunderstorms swept across Tuscany.
Our hearty congratulations go to vintage category and overall rally winners Bill Cleyndert and Jacqui Norman, to classic category winners Andrew Actman and Jackie Quinan, and to all the other prizewinners listed below, not least Steve and Ruth Lambert, who were presented with the Spirit of the Rally Award in recognition of their unwavering determination and unfailing good humour. We should also like to pay tribute to all the novice competitors who not only mastered the principles of rally timing in a very short time but also achieved remarkable results. Indeed to every single participant we say well done, and thank you for helping to make the 2017 Odyssey Italia such an enjoyable, friendly and memorable rally.
We will be publishing photographs (and videos) as soon as we can. In the meantime you may relive the event via our rally blog and examine the daily and final results in detail by clicking on the links below.
