Route designer Kim Bannister returns from South America brimmed with enthusiasm and stories of fabulous hotels; delicious locally sourced food; friendly and accommodating locals and simply AMAZING roads for the Flight of the Condor Rally!
Rally Round’s in house route designer and reconnaissance expert, Kim Bannister, recently returned from an extended trip to South America to compile the route for the upcoming Flight of the Condor Rally, running from 11th November to 8th December this year, taking in fully 7,200 kilometres of regularity rallying in some of the most stunning and challenging terrain the Andes has to offer.
Kim has spent a month making a full and detailed survey of the route proposed for the Flight of the Condor rally. Along with local Pepe, he has visited every hotel, restaurant, visitor attraction and event location along the route; discussing plans with businesses, venues and authorities to ensure the smoothest rally we can put together – whilst building in sufficient challenges and excitement to keep all participants interested and engaged.
Starting in Categena in Columbia and wending its way to Peru’s Capital Lima, Pepe and Kim have spent their time in an exhaustive search for appropriate roads, restaurants and locations to ensure the traditional “Rally Round” experience is delivered in spades.
Typical of Kim’s notes is this extract from his report on the Monteria to Medellin stage: “You often hear the phrase ‘a day of two halves’ well today was one of those. The morning was on fast flat roads but from the lunch halt onwards it was often uphill, twisty and much more interesting. The views were simply stunning. I am not a man to be poetic about the scenery but this was seriously amazing.”
Kim has delivered a report that is not just a thorough preparation for the November run, but also a riveting and informative read in itself. Kim concludes- “Arriving at the superb Country Club was a great feeling after almost one month on the road, I hope all the crews who join us for the event will experience the same pleasure.”
