The 1902 Paris-Vienna Race on film

Launched at the recent London Classic Car Show, Rally Round’s 2016 Paris-Vienna Rally was inspired by the great Paris-Vienna race of 1902, which was narrowly won by Marcel Renault on his lightweight Type K (pictured above) and saw Napier driver Selwyn Edge clinch the Gordon Bennett Cup for Britain in the concurrent Paris-Innsbruck competition.
It is easy to forget that the events of more than a century ago were not only recorded in words, photogaphs and paintings but also on film, so we thought you might like to be reminded that remarkable footage of the epic Paris-Vienna contest features in the opening episode of Bill Mason’s classic documentary, the Shell History of Motor Racing, which you may watch here. Stirring stuff!
